Greetings! I appreciate your interest and consideration in working with a counseling intern.
A little bit about me, I am a Clinical Mental Health Counseling graduate student at the University of Southern Maine. I am a cisgender woman who grew up in the Southwest and currently resides in northern Maine. I have a background in public health and applied research, and I bring those lenses to the counseling space by being grounded in research and how our positions within systems impact our mental and physical health. I have a Master of Public Health from the University of Southern Maine, a Master of Arts in Community Development and Planning from Clark University, and a Bachelor of Arts in International Development and Social Change from Clark University.
Despite my analytical background, my counseling philosophy focuses on the implicit, the felt senses, and accompanying clients’ natural inclinations towards healing. I aim to foster feelings of safety and connection before wading into the deeper internal work where we might use emotion-focused, experiential, attachment-based, or interpersonal neurobiological approaches in service of the accompanying process. I have training in several family systems theories and those perspectives shape my work with individuals and couples. I also have personal experience with the power of Internal Family Systems, and I am currently working towards the training I need to practice that approach.
I appreciate the opportunity to work together, and I sincerely look forward to getting to know you.
